SUMMARY: Iberville Parish residents voiced concerns over a new Mississippi River bridge discussed by DOTD at the State Capitol. Officials suggested the bridge might connect Plaquemine to near St. Gabriel to ease traffic in Baton Rouge. While DOTD project manager Joseph Brown emphasized improved commuting, residents like Laura Comeaux fear it would destroy Plaquemine Point, an old-growth forest with environmental certifications. Comeaux highlighted the forest’s value and solitude, urging its removal from the project list. Brown acknowledged their worries, stating that DOTD seeks community feedback to ensure a comprehensive project view.

SUMMARY: Connecticut and other states are enhancing citizens' tech skills to cope with rapid AI advancements. Connecticut is developing the nation's first Citizens AI Academy, offering free online courses to bridge the tech skills gap. Experts like Gregory LaBlanc emphasize training workers to use and manage AI rather than understand its intricacies. Legislation in Connecticut, California, Mississippi, and Maryland is exploring AI's role in education. However, challenges remain, such as the digital divide, which exacerbates inequities. Advocates stress the importance of accessible internet and devices to enable effective AI education and usage for all citizens.

SUMMARY: Daily chances of stray showers or storms are expected Monday through Friday. Tropical systems are likely to move westward towards the Yucatan Peninsula, keeping them south of the Gulf Coast. The main concern is Tropical Storm Barrel, which has strengthened to 65 mph winds and is moving west at 23 mph. It could become a Category 3 hurricane by Monday, affecting the Lesser Antilles and moving west-northwest through the Caribbean. It might weaken by Wednesday due to stronger wind shear. No tropical threats are expected for the Gulf Coast this week, but pay attention to updates on Barrel. The 7-day forecast includes hot, humid conditions with scattered daily showers and storms.

Meteorologist Alexa Trischler says impacts from Beryl will spread across the Lesser Antilles late Sunday into Monday.

SUMMARY: The Supreme Court’s 6-3 decision overturns the 1984 Chevron doctrine, which required courts to defer to federal agencies’ interpretations of ambiguous laws. This landmark ruling limits executive branch agencies’ regulatory power over the environment, public health, and workplace safety. Previously, Chevron had validated countless regulations over four decades, but conservatives and business groups criticized it for over-empowering the executive branch. The Biden administration warned that its reversal could destabilize the legal system. The decision empowers federal judges to independently decide agencies’ statutory authority, potentially inciting extensive litigation challenging regulations, thus reducing the government’s ability to address significant issues like COVID-19 and climate change.
